My husband has been taking his cars to Rick for years, but I had taken my Volvo to the Santa Cruz dealership for years. When the Volvo dealership disappeared, I was at a loss as to where to turn to next, so I went to Rick since my husband has trusted his cars to him for a long time.
Our trust is not misplaced. Rick has to be one of the most conscientious and honest mechanics we've ever known. When my Volvo, which now has close to 200K, started to have a bad symptom, he didn't want to rush in and fix the fuel pump (which I suspected) if it was unnecessary to do. He didn't want us to spend the money if we didn't have to. How many businesses would do that??
As time has gone by, his diagnoses are always correct, and if he's unsure, he'll hold off until he is sure. Again, how many places would do that? He's gotten to know my car pretty well now, and has told me what the next two things will most likely wear out and approximately how much it will cost. I know he will call around to see if he can get the part cheaper. Does your auto mechanic do that?
My car currently has an ailment and he had an idea what it might be, but again, didn't want to move forward until it was FOR SURE that was the item that needed fixing. He's called a couple of times to see how my car was doing and if it was still acting up. Okay, your doctor's office might do that, but does YOUR mechanic do that?
I'm seriously surprised that anyone would have a bad experience with him. Maybe he let go of his office help because of the Great Recession; most people have had to make changes in their lives and businesses. However, I do know that R&D has consistently given us good, honest, quality service. And Rick is solid gold in our book!"
